Description
Walthamstow Central Library is a library built between 1907 and 1909 by J W Dunford. It features red brick with ashlar dressings and has a tiled hipped roof. The building is two storeys tall and consists of four bays, with the central pair slightly set forward. These are flanked by columns in the Ionic order and topped with a segmental open pediment. The windows are round-headed in the center, while the outer windows on the upper storey are square-headed with round windows above. Decorative architraves and prominent keystones enhance the windows. The ground floor has sash windows, while the first floor features timber mullions and transoms with leaded lights. The ground floor is rusticated ashlar, and the entrance is located to the right of the center, featuring a round-headed, richly moulded and carved panelled door. Atop the roof is a timber and copper Doric ogeed cupola.
