Former workhouse, now hospital. 1840. Stock brick, white brick and some stucco dressings. Low pitched slate roof to eaves, with parapets to projecting bays. 3 storeys. 19 bays; advanced giant pilastered centrepiece of 3 bays with splayed sides, pediment and clock. End bays also advanced and pedimented with giant pila- sters rising through first and second floors. Fifth and fifteenth bays also advanced, with pedimental blocking courses. Central tripartite pilastered entrance with stucco architrave, carried up to tripartite window above and to clock. Similar stucco architraves to other projecting bays, which also have rusticated brick quoins. Segmental headed windows, set in segmental reveals to advanced bays. Sashes, plate glass. Formerly West Ham Union Workhouse. VCH.
