Description
The Stanley School War Memorial is a tall, octagonal pillar made of Portland stone, topped with a rounded finial and set on a Portland stone plinth. Near the top of the shaft, there is a decorative band of Xs, and at the bottom, a band of lozenges. The front face of the plinth is inscribed with the following text: "TO THE OLD BOYS OF THIS SCHOOL / WHO ON THE THRESHOLD OF MANHOOD / GAVE THEIR LIVES / IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 - 1919 / LEAVING A GLORIOUS MEMORY AND AN / UNDYING EXAMPLE / THEY 'PLAYED THE GAME' TO THE END." The names of the Fallen are listed on the right and left faces of the plinth. The entire structure is supported by a stone base.
