Description

Fulwell Golf Club House, which includes the ladies changing rooms and kitchen, is a former farmhouse that was converted into a golf club house around 1830. It is constructed of stock brick in Flemish bond and features a hipped slate roof with a stock brick chimney. The building has a wide wooden modillion eaves cornice.

The central section is two storeys high and has three window spaces, with the central space being blank. On the first floor, there are two 16-pane sash windows, and a stringcourse runs along the building. The ground floor features one 16-pane sash window, one round-headed blank space, and French windows on the right side.

Flanking the central part are two lower wings. The left wing has a 16-pane sash on the first floor and a 12-pane sash on the ground floor, along with a left casement window on the first floor and a round-headed arch with a doorcase that has a surround and paterae, leading to a six-panelled door with the top four panels glazed. The right wing is also two storeys high and has four windows: three casements and one 9-pane sash with horns. The ground floor includes two cembered French windows, one 12-pane sash, and a built-in doorcase with reeded details and paterae. The end two bays of this wing are likely not original.

The rear elevation has a central part with two 16-pane sashes and a central blank space, along with windows that have reeded architraves and paterae. One wing has two sashes, while the other wing is obscured by a later building that is not of special interest.

Inside, there is a reused early 18th-century wooden staircase featuring one twisted and one columnar baluster on each step, with corner posts designed as composite columns. The interior also includes two early 19th-century four-panelled doors with raised patterns and a set of three folding doors with a similar design, along with two late 19th-century chimney pieces adorned with rose and pomegranate details. There is a tiled former dairy with slate shelves. The building has served as a golf club house since the 1920s and was previously known as Slade Farmhouse.
