Description

The tomb of Nathaniel Halhed is located in the churchyard of St Peter's Church and dates from 1730. It is made of marble and features a statuary marble pedestal that was originally topped with an urn, which is now detached and lying on the ground. The pedestal stands on a stepped base that was once surrounded by railings. The inscription panels on the east and west faces are badly weathered, with only the name James Halhed, son of Nathaniel, who died in 1757, still legible. This tomb was formerly one of the most lavish in the churchyard.
