Description
The tomb of Captain George Vancouver is located in the churchyard of St Peter's Church. It is a churchyard monument dedicated to Captain George Vancouver, who died in 1798. The tomb features an arched headstone and footstone made of Portland stone, set within a replaced stone kerb. The headstone is inscribed with "Captain George Vancouver Died in the Year 1798 Aged 40." The footstone bears the inscription: "Restored by the Native Sons of British Columbia Post No.2 (Canada) Maintained by the Late Major J.S. Matthews and the City of Vancouver B.C. (Canada)." This monument is listed for its historical significance related to George Vancouver, a notable maritime explorer. Additionally, there is a wall monument inside the church, erected in 1841 by the Hudson's Bay Company, which provides a more detailed eulogy for him.
