Description

The Godfrey Monument in St Mary's Churchyard is a tall Corinthian column, designed by Sir Robert Taylor around 1742. It stands approximately 30 feet high and is made of whitened jasper. The monument features a square plinth, a square block of entablature, and an urn on top. It commemorates Edward Godfrey, who died in 1742 and was an early patron of Taylor. The construction of the monument cost £1,500.
