Description
The Keepe Monument, located in St Mary's Churchyard, is a neo-classical structure dating from around 1784, designed by Samuel Robinson. It features an Adamesque style and is made of Coade stone. The monument has a large square plinth adorned with circular inscribed panels and a frieze decorated with delicate swags. At the top, there is an elegantly shaped urn. The corner angels are missing. This monument commemorates Edward Keep(e), who passed away in 1781, and it is signed "S Robinson, Coade." The design was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1784 and is considered a fine example of its kind. Photographs of the monument are available in the National Monuments Record.
