Description

This is a row of four cottages, dating from around the middle of the 18th century. They are built of red brick, with some areas painted. The roof is tiled, pitched to the eaves, and features a balanced design. The row is seven bays wide overall, with the cottages at each end set slightly forward and each covered by a hipped roof. Entrances are located in the outer bays of the central cottages and on the return elevations of the end cottages. Over the entrances are projecting timber canopies, sheltering planked doors. The upper floor windows are square-headed and gauged, with two blocked windows in the third and fifth bays. Party walls divide the centre windows. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars. A brick cornice with modillion detailing runs along the eaves. Dormer windows are present above each of the central cottages, with casement windows and plate glass. Tall stacks are visible. The original interior of No. 19 is intact; the interiors of the other cottages were not inspected.
