Description
This is a row of four cottages located on Bearley Road in Aston Cantlow. The core of the buildings dates to the 17th century, although they were substantially refaced in the late 18th or early 19th century. The cottages are timber-framed and originally had a timber front, now clad in brick. Nos. 22 and 23 have distinct brickwork, including a dentil cornice and a plinth made of regularly coursed lias stone. The roofs are covered in old tiles, with brick ridge stacks. Each cottage follows a double-depth plan with a single storey and attic, featuring dormers and a four-window front. No. 21 has a 20th-century panelled door; the other cottages have plank doors. No. 20 has a brick flat arch over its doorway, while the other ground-floor openings are topped with segmental brick arches. The windows are casements with glazing bars. The rear of the cottages displays exposed timber framing with lath and plaster infill, except for No. 23 which has brick infill. There are 19th-century single-storey brick wings at the rear, and the window placement is irregular. The interiors have not been inspected.
