Description

Queen Alexandra's Court (North Block) is a residential building constructed between 1904 and 1905, designed by Ernest George and Yeates in collaboration with C E L Parkinson. The structure features red brick with Portland stone dressings and quoins, topped by a steeply pitched hipped roof covered in green slate. It is designed in a Neo-Georgian style and consists of three storeys with 21 bays, which are grouped in triplets. The wider entrance bays are clad in Portland stone and have segmental arched entrances on the ground floor. The building includes mullioned windows and arched balconied openings above some windows, with square-headed gauged heads and sash windows that have glazing bars. Decorative elements include a modillion eaves cornice and slab chimneys. This block is one of four similar structures that surround a quadrangle and is part of the Royal Homes for Widows and Daughters of Naval and Military Officers.
