Description
Queen Alexandra's Court (southern block) is a residential building constructed between 1904 and 1905, designed by Ernest George and Yeates with C E L Parkinson. It features red brick with Portland stone dressings and quoins, topped by a steeply pitched, hipped green slate roof at the eaves. The building is designed in a Neo-Georgian style and consists of three storeys with 21 bays arranged in triplets, separated by wider entrance bays that are clad in Portland stone and have segmental arched entrances on the ground floor. The windows are a mix of mullioned and arched balconied apertures above, with other square-headed windows featuring gauged heads, sashes, and glazing bars. A modillion eaves cornice and slab chimneys complete the design. This block is one of four similar structures surrounding a quadrangle and is part of the Royal Military Homes for Widows and Daughters of Naval and Military Officers.
