Description
Alexandra Homes, founded in 1865 to commemorate the safe arrival of Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra of Denmark, later Queen Alexandra, consists of two ranges facing each other across a green. Originally, there was a Clock House terrace along the east side in matching style, but this has been replaced by a modern building. The homes are two storeys high, cement rendered, and topped with slate roofs. Each range features curved gable ends that contain moulded Prince of Wales feathers, with two curved gables and small curved pediments above most of the sash windows. The windows are plain sashes with verticals only, and the ground floors have moulded architraves. The doorcases are simple and cambered, featuring keystones and ball finials on the cornices. Alexandra Homes Nos 2 to 28 (evens) and Nos 1 to 27 (odds), along with the wall in front, form a cohesive group.
