Description
The former Fire Station, built in 1904 by Charles Hanlet Cooper, is located on Queen's Road in the London Borough of Merton. This building features a red brick exterior with stone bands and a pitched slate roof that culminates in a parapet. The left section consists of three bays and three storeys, while the right section has two storeys and dormers. The ground floor includes an archway on the left and square-headed engine doors with panelled timber doors in the other bays. The second bay from the left boasts a full-height segmental bay window with mullioned lights, which rises to a tower topped with a conical roof and a cupola featuring a copper tented roof. The first floor windows in the three right bays are segmental-headed with prominent stone voussoirs, mullions, some transoms, sashes, and glazing bars in the upper lights. Above the second floor, there is a stone dentil cornice, and the parapet has gablets on the first and third bays from the left. The building also has cast iron window guards on the third floor and tall chimneys at the end gables.
