Description
Wimbledon Town Hall is a town hall built between 1928 and 1931, designed by A J Hope of Messrs Bradshaw, Gass and Hope. It is constructed from Portland stone and features a slate mansard roof in a stripped classical style. The building has three storeys, including an attic storey, and is composed of 11 bays, with the outer bays slightly projecting and flanked by giant Doric pilasters. The central section has a projecting Doric porch with an openwork parapet and a cartouche. The windows are square-headed with metal glazing bars. There is a cornice above the first floor and a subsidiary cornice at the attic level, along with oval dormers in the mansard roof. The rear elevation, the interior of the Town Hall, and the link block with the Civic Hall do not have special architectural or historic interest.
