Description
Clayton House, Mucklow House, Naylar House, Oliver House, and River House are a carefully designed early 19th-century terrace of white brick houses located at Strand on the Green, W4. The terrace features a symmetrical arrangement of three, two, three, two, and three double-hung sash windows set in reveals with flat arches. River House has a modern glass ground floor. The houses exhibit slight side and centre projections. The doorways include four and six fielded panel doors in reveals with reeded surrounds and semi-circular traceried fanlights. The centre ground floor windows are arched with stone imposts, and there is a first-floor band, stone frieze, cornice, and a pediment with a dummy circular lunette in the tympanum. The rest of the terrace is adorned with stone architraves and cornices, and there are cast iron railings. River House features attractive first-floor balcony railings, a door on the east elevation, and one window recessed in the east wing. The houses numbered 52 to 56 form a cohesive group.
