HARESFIELD Granaries at Knightscote Farm

GV II

Granaries at Knightscote Farm. Early to mid-19th century. A pair of weatherboarded granaries each with timber frames, standing on staddle stones, eight per building; tiled roof. The northern granary re-uses an 18th century six-panel door, with a latticed ventilation opening above; queen strut roof with clasped purlins. The southern granary has a similar roof, but has undergone extensive holding repairs; walls are lined with planks, originally part of the grain bins. Listed as surviving examples of a once-common agricultural building type in Middlesex, and now rare; the survival of an adjacent pair of granaries is also notable.
