Description
Manor Court is a building from the 16th and 17th centuries that has been significantly altered in the 19th century and later. It features a pebble-dashed exterior and a fairly high-pitched tiled roof with a rebuilt ridge stack. The building has modern casement windows and a gabled porch, and it is roughly U-shaped in plan with rear extensions.
Inside, the south wing is the oldest part, showcasing two bays of a timber-framed structure with large rectangular panels of stout scantling and arched braces. The central section contains a massive chimney that is no longer in use. The interior has been extensively subdivided for hostel use. The north wing also retains timber framing, although its original jetty was removed due to road widening.
Current plans indicate that the building originally had a hall with an extended service wing to the south, and a small parlour bay that was later expanded with a north parlour wing in the 17th century, with the rear extensions added afterward.
