Blackheath School of Art

Purpose built Art School. Built 1896-7 by Edmeston and Gabriel, in Queen Anne style. Built in Leicester brick with Westmoreland slate roof with brick chimney-stacks. Front has low 1 storey range with 4 brick sashes, with horns, only the upper part having glazing bars with vertical bar only to lower half. Rubbed brick voussoirs with keystones. Side elevation has 2 similar sashes and cambered doorcase. To the rear is a taller studio with gambrel roof aJd4 tall brick chimney-stacks. Interior of studio has Queen post-type roof large windows and sloping windows in the roof to the advantage of the northern light. Later extensions to rear not of special interest.
