Description

This is a mid-19th century terrace of 33 cottages, numbered 1 to 33, located on Maidenstone Hill. The terrace curves around the hillside and consists of two-storey, two-window dwellings. The roofs are slate, with a moderate pitch, and feature stuccoed eaves and a stuccoed frieze below. Square dormers are present on numbers 15, 21, 27, 29, and 31. The walls are built of colourful stock brick, with the lower sections stuccoed up to a first-floor cill band. The ground floor windows have moulded architraves. All windows are sash windows with glazing bars. Each door has a cornice hood supported by scrolled consoles, a cornice head, and a small, rectangular fanlight. Number 1 has an entrance on its east-facing return. Fire insurance signs are visible on numbers 1, 7, 11, 17, 23, and 33. A plaque showing a Masonic mark and inscription "College Place East" is located on the first floor of number 1. Numbers 1 to 33 (odd) are designated as a group with numbers 20 to 30 (even) on Dutton Street.
