Description

Milestone located at the corner of High Street and Bromley Road in Beckenham, dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It is made of limestone and has a square plan with a rounded top. The milestone is inscribed with the following: "LONDON/BRIDGE/ MILES/IX/2 FURLONGS/ONE MILE/AND HALF TO/SHORTLANDS." This milestone is situated on the New Cross turnpike road, which was established in 1718.
