Description

These are a group of artisans' cottages built in 1909, designed by Barry Parker and Raymond Unwin as part of the Hampstead Garden Suburb. The cottages are designed to resemble a double-ended hall house. They are painted with a pebbledash finish, except for the brick plinth in Flemish bond on the crosswings, and feature tile kneelers and a tile-hung dormer on one building. The roofs are tiled with swept eaves and exposed rafter ends. The cottages have two storeys and a five-window range to the main hall section, with a single window in each gable-fronted crosswing. One cottage has a tile-hung gable facing dormer, unlike the hipped dormer on others. The right-hand wing is faced with unpainted pebbledash, mirroring the appearance of Nos. 2-8 Asmuns Hill. Single-storey rear wings extend from the end units. The Asmuns Hill group is a significant example of a complete streetscape designed by Parker and Unwin.
