Description

A pair of artisans' cottages built in 1909 by Barry Parker and Raymond Unwin, located within the Hampstead Garden Suburb. The cottages are constructed with painted pebbledash cladding on the upper walls, a brick plinth to the ground floor, and brick segmental arches for the recessed entrance porches. Weatherboarding is used on the first-floor balconies. The roof is tiled, hipped, with swept eaves and exposed rafter ends. They are two storeys high with a four-window arrangement. The design is typical of the paired and canted bay style common in the artisans’ quarter of the suburb. Number 24 features a large 20th-century dormer and a late 20th-century garage that is considered of no particular interest. Despite these alterations, the cottages remain part of a historically significant group on Asmuns Hill, representing a well-preserved example of a Parker and Unwin streetscape.
