Description

Numbers 95 and 97 are a pair of artisans' cottages built between 1909 and 1910 by architects Barry Parker and Raymond Unwin. The cottages feature painted pebbledash with some brick lintels and have a tiled roof. They are two storeys high and have two windows on the front. Designed in a Vernacular Revival style, the symmetrical elevation is characterized by a gable and a rendered half dormer at the center. The entrances are located in the outer sections, with coupled square lights above them. There is continuous weathering above the pair of first-floor windows in the center. The sides of the cottages have a two-window range. An axial ridge stack is positioned on the party wall. There is a single-storey extension at the rear of No. 97, which is a later addition and not of special interest. The listing also includes part of the garden wall shared by No. 95 and No. 91 Willifield Way. This group of cottages, along with Nos. 57 to 111 odd and 70 to 124 even on Willifield Way, represents a significant example of an intact streetscape designed according to the principles of Parker and Unwin.
