Description

This is a three-storey, basemented terraced house located on Park Street in Westminster, constructed around 1729 by John Barnes, a bricklayer. Early to mid-19th century stucco detailing was later added to the facade. The house is built of brown brick, with a rusticated stucco ground floor, quoins, and window dressings. The roof is concealed. It has a front of three windows. A doorway is situated to the left, featuring a stucco pilastered architrave and a segmental pediment. The ground floor windows are glazing bar sashes, set within flat arches with a voussoir and vermiculated keystone. The upper floors incorporate architraved French casements and sashes; the 1st floor architraves are eared with pediments, and cornices are positioned over the 2nd floor windows. A stucco cornice runs along the top of the building. A wrought iron balcony is present on the 1st floor and the front is defined by arrowhead cast iron area railings. The interior is largely intact, including a panelled passage hall and a closet wing with angle fireplaces. A dog leg closed string staircase is present, with turned balusters and column newels. The house also features bolection chimney pieces and box cornices.
