Description
No. 78 Park Street is a terrace house built around 1729 by the bricklayer John Barnes. The house is constructed of brown brick with red brick window dressings and features early 19th-century rendering on the ground floor. It has four storeys, originally three, along with a basement, and is three windows wide. There is an architraved doorway to the left and slightly recessed box framed sash windows, which are set under flat gauged red brick arches. The parapet has coping, and the first-floor windows are adorned with early 19th-century cast iron balconettes. The area railings are topped with spear head urn finials.
Inside, the house retains nearly complete full panelling, including a passage-hall and an angle fireplace closet wing. The dog leg staircase features a closed string, turned balusters, and column newels, along with box cornices.
