Description
This is a symmetrical terrace of houses located in Lisle Street, Westminster. The terrace dates from 1791, although it underwent considerable refacing, likely following the Second World War. The buildings are constructed of stock brick with slate roofs. They are generally three storeys high with dormered mansards, although number 14 has a full attic storey. Most of the houses have two-window frontages, with numbers 14 and 25 having three windows. The ground floors feature mid-19th century shop fronts, many of which have been altered in the mid-20th century. Number 20 has a patterned fanlight above the right-hand doorway, flanked by carved consoles. The upper floors contain recessed sash windows with glazing bars, set within flat, gauged arches. A sill band runs across the second floor, and a block bracketed stone cornice sits below the parapet – this is missing from numbers 17 and 19. The cornice is formed into a pediment over number 18, featuring a stone tablet inscribed "NEW LISLE STREET MDCCXCI" within a brick tympanum. Number 27 retains its original cornet lead rainwater head. The interiors remain largely unchanged, with simple dog leg staircases featuring column newels and moulded cornices.
