Description
No. 47 Gerrard Street is a terrace house that likely dates from the late 17th century, with some refurbishment in the early 18th century and later alterations. The building is constructed of painted brick and has a slate roof. It stands three storeys high with a dormered mansard and features three windows across its façade. The ground floor was altered in the mid-20th century but still retains elements of an early 19th-century wooden shop front, as well as a square-headed house doorway to the right, which includes a panelled door and fanlight. The upper floors have recessed sash windows, some of which have glazing bars, set beneath flat gauged arches made of red brick that is hidden beneath paint. There are stone plat bands on the first and second floors, and the building has a parapet with coping. Notable interior features include an early 18th-century dog leg turned baluster staircase and cornices. This house is part of Nicholas Barbon's original Gerrard Street development, which began in 1677.
