Description
No. 25 Newport Court is a terrace house with a shop, rebuilt between 1784 and 1785. It is constructed of stock brick and has a concealed roof. The building stands four storeys tall and is three windows wide. The ground floor features a square-headed house doorway on the right, which has a panelled door and fanlight. There is a wooden shop front frame from around 1800, with flat windows and a doorway that were restored in the 20th century. This shop front is supported by decorated brackets that carry an entablature with a dentil cornice, which is segmentally bowed over the shop windows. The upper floors have recessed sash windows from the late 19th century, set under flat gauged red brick arches. The building has a parapet with coping. It was originally built as part of Nicholas Barbon's development of the Newport House site in 1682.
