Description
Nos. 4 and 5 Gerrard Street are terrace houses built between 1733 and 1734, with a later 18th century or early 19th century top floor added to No. 5. The buildings are constructed of rendered brick and have slate roofs. No. 4 has three storeys and a continuous dormer attic, while No. 5 has four storeys, both featuring three windows across their facades. No. 4 includes a mid-20th century shop front. No. 5 has an entrance to a mid-19th century shop front, which includes a square-headed house doorway with a fanlight; however, the shop display window and door have been altered. This front is framed with pilasters and has an entablature-fascia with a dentil cornice. The upper floors mostly retain segmental arched recessed sash windows with late 18th century glazing bars, set in later architrave surrounds. The first-floor windows of No. 5 feature early 19th century cornices on consoles and friezes with paterae. There are sill bands and parapets with copings. An original cast iron rainwater head is located between No. 5 and No. 6. Inside No. 5, the original passage-hall panelling and a cut string dog leg stair with turned balusters and a ramped handrail are preserved.
