Description
No. 2 Gerrard Place is a terrace house built around 1743, with a heightening from the late 18th century and mid-19th century alterations to the ground floor. The building is constructed of stock brick and topped with a slate roof. It stands three storeys high, plus a basement and an attic storey featuring a dormered mansard. The facade is three windows wide, with a stucco-faced ground floor that includes a Doric doorcase on the left, framing a panelled door and fanlight. The ground floor sashes are set within stucco architraves with bracketed sills. The upper floors feature recessed sashes, some of which are blind, with several having late 18th-century glazing bars, all under flat red brick gauged arches. A brick quoin pilaster runs the full height of the left side. There is a moulded stone cornice above the second floor and a parapet with coping. Inside, the house retains original features such as fielded panelling in the passage-hall and stairwell, an open string carved bracket, a turned baluster staircase, and a pilastered archway between the hall and stairwell.
