Description

No. 13 Devonshire Mews West is a mews building dating from around 1780, associated with No. 13 Devonshire Place. The original west front was designed to be viewed from the house, while the mews front was rebuilt in the early 20th century. The building is constructed of stucco with a slate roof. The neo-Georgian mews front contrasts with the original west front, which features an elegant tetrastyle neo-classical design.

The building has two storeys and is three windows wide, with a slightly advanced pedimented central bay. The ground floor showcases semicircular arched windows with patterned radial fanlights and margin lights flanking a central French window, all set in rusticated surrounds with voussoirs above the arches. The first floor features square-headed glazing bar sashes that are recessed within architrave surrounds, flanking a central sunk panel that bears a coat of arms.

The entire façade is enhanced by a Corinthian order, which includes corner pilasters and pairs of engaged columns on pedestals, supporting an entablature with a fluted frieze and cornice. The advanced central section is pedimented and adorned with swag enrichment on the entablature frieze, and there is a guilloche band on the first floor, present in each bay.
