Description

Nos. 5 and 6 Mansfield Mews are stable-coach houses dating from around 1773, and later altered to the mews front. They were built in association with Nos. 7 and 9 Mansfield Street, designed by Robert and James Adam. The buildings are constructed of stuccoed brick, with slate roofs. The east front, which faces the rear of the Mansfield Street houses, is of a “polite” design with two storeys and three windows wide. The central first floor features an inscribed Venetian window composition with Doric pilasters and a dentil cornice. The outer relieving arches are blind, with wreathed rosettes in the spandrels. No. 6 has a radial patterned fanlight to the inner arch of its Venetian window. Later 20th-century windows and a door have been inserted. Parapets with copings run along the roofline; No. 5 features an entablature with a swag frieze.
