Description

TQ 2881 NE CITY OF WESTMINSTER HARLEY STREET, Wl 45/91 (East side) No. 48 G.V. II Terraced town house. c.1770 Portland Estate development with c.1900 alterations to ground floor. Stock brick, the ground floor faced in green mosaic; slate roof. 4 storeys, basement and dormered mansard, 3 windows wide. Semicircular arched doorway to left with cornice moulding curved over; panelled door with sidelights and fanlight. Ground floor has c.1900 oriel window with mullioned and transomed lights; the mosaic facing is laid in whorled pattern with band edging. Upper floors have recessed sashes under flat gauged red brick arches, those on 1st floor with reveals lined out with flush architrave frames, 3rd floor sashes unaltered. Parapet with stone coping. 1st floor cast iron fleur-de-lis pattern balcony. Cast iron area railings with slightly Arts and Crafts detailing. Interior retains turned baluster geometrical staircase and cornices with Arts and Crafts plasterwork and mouldings to hall and ground floor rooms.
