Description

TQ 2881 NE CITY OF WESTMINSTER HARLEY STREET, W1 45/6 (West side) 14.1.70 No. 121 G.V. II* Terraced town house. c.1780 Portland Estate development, probably by John White. Stock brick with channelled stucco ground floor; slate roof. 4 storeys and basement. 3 windows wide. Broad semicircular arched doorway to right with Coade stone vermiculated surround and head keystone; panelled door, side lights and fanlight in Venetian window composition. Recessed sashes, under flat gauged arches to upper floors; those on 1st floor set in blind arcade with stucco impost bands. 1st floor plat band; 3rd floor sill band; parapet with stone coping. Mid C.19 scrolled cast iron balcony across 1st floor. Cast iron urn finialed area railings. Fine interior with top lit stone geometrical staircase with wrought iron balustrade, palmette enriched drum to skylight; delicate plasterwork in the Adam manner probably by John Papworth; inlaid marble chimneypieces, mahogany doors; etc.
