Description

Nos. 110 and 112 Harley Street are terraced town houses built around 1777 as part of the Portland Estate development, likely designed by John White in collaboration with the plasterer Thomas Collins, who were associates of Sir William Chambers. The houses are constructed from stock brick with stucco ground floors and feature slate roofs. They stand four storeys tall, with a basement and a dormered mansard roof. No. 110 has two windows, while No. 112 has three.

Both houses have broad semicircular arched doorways on the right, set in rusticated surrounds. The doorway of No. 110 is adorned with Coade stone vermiculations and a head keystone. The upper floors have recessed sash windows beneath flat gauged arches. There are decorative elements including a plat band and sill band on the first floor, a cornice above the second floor, and a modillion cornice with a blocking course.

Early to mid-19th century cast iron balconies are present on the first floor, along with cast iron plumbed spike area railings. The interiors are notable for their top-lit stone geometrical staircases with wrought iron balustrades, as well as fluted, patera, and rinceau friezes. There are stucco mythological relief medallions in the style of Chambers above inlaid marble Ionic columned or pilastered chimneypieces, along with mahogany doors. The interiors are more elaborate than typical for speculative houses built in the 1770s on Harley Street.
