Description

This is a long terrace of houses located on St John’s Wood Terrace in London, dating from around 1830 as part of the Portland Estate development. The terrace demonstrates group value, contributing to the character of the area. The houses are constructed of stock brick, with the ground floors of numbers 14, 15, 19 and 21 to 23 being stuccoed, and numbers 19 to 23 featuring channelled detailing. They have slate roofs and are arranged with a three-storey, two-window wide facade. The left-hand side features semi-circular arched doorways. These doorways are fitted with panelled doors, decorated with a roundel knocker and an overlight window (fanlight). Number 21 features pilaster jambs supporting an entablature over the doorhead, while numbers 9 to 20 have fluted jambs. The windows are recessed, with glazing bar sashes set within flat, gauged arches. A plat band runs above the ground floor, topped by a stucco cornice and blocking course. First-floor windows of numbers 14 to 20 are embellished with “Chinese” pattern cast iron balconettes, with the exception of numbers 21 and 22. Numbers 3 to 6 are part of the same terrace and are listed separately.
