Description
No. 16 Buckingham Gate is a terraced town house built in 1706, attributed to Captain William Winde. The building features brown brick with rusticated stone flanks and stone dressings, topped by a slate roof. It has three storeys, a basement, and a dormered mansard, with a façade that is five narrow windows wide.
The doorway is located to the right and includes a panelled door set within a wooden doorcase supported by Doric pilasters and an entablature. The windows are recessed glazing bar sashes, placed under flat gauged red brick arches with stone keys, and feature moulded sills with raised brick aprons below. The central window on the first floor has a semicircular arched head and a blind balustrade below the sill. On the second floor, the central bay has a stone niche with a segmental open pediment instead of a window.
Additional architectural details include thin stone cornice-bands above the window heads and a stone cornice below the parapet, which is topped with coping. The property is also enclosed by wrought iron area railings. The interior has not been inspected.
