Description

Evelyn House is a commercial building located on Oxford Street in the City of Westminster, constructed in 1909 and designed by H Percy Adams and Charles Holden. The building is made of Portland stone and features four storeys plus an attic storey. It has four bays facing Oxford Street and is designed in a stripped classical style. There are strip pilasters between the shops on the ground floor, except at the corner where alterations were made in the mid-20th century. Giant strip pilasters rise between the bays from the first to the third storey. The first floor has semicircular windows, while the upper floors feature square-headed windows arranged in triplets, with architraves, sashes, and plate glass. The second floor has cast iron balconies, and there is a modillion cornice above the third floor. The attic has plastered paired windows, and the building has slab chimneys. The return side of the building is similar but includes dormers.
