Description

TQ 2980 CITY OF WESTMINSTER SHEPHERD MARKET W1 80/131 17-12-75 No 55 (formely listed as No 35) GV II Terrace house. Late C18 or alteration of mid C18 house. Stuccoed, slate roof. 3 storeys and dormered mansard. 3 windows wide. C19 shop front to ground floor altered mid C20 but with remains of original doorcase to right. Recessed sash windows, no glazing bars, under flat arches to upper floors. Parapet with coping. Part of the Shepherd Market development laid out c. 1735 and built c. 1746, the designer, builder and promoter being Edward Shepherd, who built and designed on the Grosvenor and Cavendish Estates.
