Description
No. 55 Shepherd Market is a terrace house dating from the late 18th century, or possibly an alteration of a mid-18th century house. The building is finished in stucco and has a slate roof. It stands three storeys tall with a dormered mansard and features three windows across its facade. The ground floor has a 19th-century shop front that was altered in the mid-20th century, but it retains parts of the original doorcase on the right. The upper floors have recessed sash windows without glazing bars, set under flat arches. The building has a parapet with coping. It is part of the Shepherd Market development, which was laid out around 1735 and constructed around 1746, designed and built by Edward Shepherd, who was active in the Grosvenor and Cavendish Estates.
