TQ 2880 SE & 2980 SW CITY OF WESTMINSTER PICCADILLY Wl 80/107 ; 81/64 (north side) 30-5-72 Devonshire House (in- cluding Nos 53 to 56 consec. Stratton Street, No 11 Mayfair Place and No 51 Berkeley Street) GV II Massive island office block. 1924-26 by the American practice of Carrere and Hastings with Professor Reilly. Portland stone clad steel frame. Glasgow/American classicism with sparing but lively Graeco-Roman details and has relief plaques. Very tall main block of 7 storeys and sheer attic storey plus a mezzanine between ground and 1st floors, with projecting 5 storey and attic corner pavilions. The ground and mezzanine floors of main block advanced level with pavilions to Piccadilly. 15 bays overall. 3 bay pavilions and 9 bay main block. Ground floor large display windows articulated by channelled piers and pilasters supporting deep entablature. Flanking pavilions fully rusticated. Elaborate dentilled and modillioned cornice to main block. Return elevations similarly composed and rear facade to Mayfair Place with giant Doric colonnade through 2 storeys carried out from main block over pavement. Interior altered late C20. Showrooms to Piccadilly retain original plasterwork etc.
