Description
No. 11 Bolton Street is a mid-18th century house that was remodeled in the Italianate style in the late 19th century. The building is finished in stucco with a rusticated ground floor and consists of five storeys plus a basement. It has two windows on the facade, with a cornice and blocking course at the top. The main cornice is located at the fourth floor level, and the second and third floors feature sill bands. The windows are square-headed, architraved sash windows, with the second floor windows adorned with cornices and broken pediments. The first floor has splayed bay windows, and the ground floor windows also have cornices and broken pediments, with one window set in a recessed splayed bay. The balcony on the first floor has been altered to a cornice with a coved band and strap ornaments below in the frieze. There is a square-headed, architraved doorway with a bracketed broken pediment. The property has cast iron railings. Although there are a few original interior features, most were altered in the early 19th century. Notably, Fanny Burney (Madame D'Arblay) lived here, as indicated by a plaque from the London County Council. The building is listed for its historical association.
