Description
No. 8 Stratton Street is a terrace house built between 1871 and 1872 by architects Ernest George and Vaughan. It features red brick with stone dressings and a slate roof, showcasing a Free Gothic Revival style. The building stands five storeys tall with a basement and is three windows wide. The ground floor includes a large carriage archway on the right, with triple groups of gothic-style windows to the left and a Gothic arched doorway to their right. The first floor has a central canted bay window with casement lights, flanked by windows that display Romanesque details in the mouldings of their arches. At the top, a central gable frames a six-light plate traceried window with diaper work in the tympanum. The weathered parapet coping rises up the gable as a saddlestone. Additionally, there are ornate cast iron area railings and a matching first-floor balcony.
