Description

Nos. 16 and 17 Maiden Lane are a pair of terrace houses dating from approximately 1635. The original timber frame was refronted in 1806-07, and the rear of the building was rebuilt in the 20th century. The construction is stock brick with a stuccoed ground floor, topped with a slate roof. The houses are three storeys high, with dormers in a mansard roof.

No. 16 is three windows wide, while No. 17 is two windows wide. The ground floors incorporate shop fronts dating from 1876, featuring consoles flanking entablature fascias. A passage entrance to Bull Inn Court is located on the left side of No. 16, with plank facing revealing the original timber frame. The upper floors contain recessed sash windows, some of which retain glazing bars, all set under gauged flat arches. A common parapet runs along the top, with a thin stone coping. The dormers are designed like workshop windows, with sliding Yorkshire lights. A bracketed Windsor lantern is positioned above the passage entrance of No. 16.
