Description
The Nell Gwynne Tavern is a public house located in Bull Inn Court, Westminster. It features an early 19th-century refronting or rebuild of a 17th or 18th-century house. The building is constructed of stock brick and has a slate roof, standing four storeys tall with four windows plus a half window. The wooden pub front includes flanking doorways that are framed by pilasters supporting an entablature. The doorways are recessed and have panelled reveals with rectangular fanlights above. The upper floors are adorned with recessed glazing bar sashes set under flat gauged arches, and there is a parapet with coping.
Inside, the passageway leading to the Strand, beneath No. 408, features an Edwardian lining of polychrome tilework in an Art Nouveau style on the walls and ceiling. The arched street entrance includes an inscription that reads "To the Nell Gwynne Tavern Saloon Lounge" in a matching Art Nouveau style lettering.
