Description

Nos. 7 and 8 Henrietta Street are a pair of terrace houses built around 1730-31, with early 19th-century alterations to the ground floor and a refacing of the upper floors in the 1870s, similar to Nos. 5 and 6. The ground floor is finished in coursed stucco, while the upper floors feature painted Portland cement facing and Italianate dressings, topped with a slate roof. The buildings rise four storeys and include basements, with No. 8 having a dormered mansard roof. Each house has three windows across its facade. The doorways at either end are framed by elegant Greek Ionic doorcases with fluted columns and an entablature, leading to an eight-panel door. The ground floor features recessed semicircular arched sashes with keystones, while the upper floors have Victorian sashes with segmental heads in plain architraves. The second and third floors have eared architraves, and the first floor has cornices on consoles, with heavy stone sills. Both houses are topped with a dentil and modillion cornice, which has blocking across the fronts. Inside, both houses retain several original features, particularly No. 8, which includes cut string twisted baluster column newel staircases and panelling, along with early 19th-century details.
