Description
Nos. 5 and 6 Henrietta Street are a pair of terrace houses built around 1730-31 and refronted in 1873 by W.G. Bartleet for the London and County Bank. The buildings feature a Portland cement facing and dressings, with a slate roof and Italianate details. They are four storeys tall and have cellars, each with three windows across the front.
The ground floor is channelled and has square-headed doorways at either end of the paired fronts, which are topped with cornices on consoles. Flanking the doorways are four segmental-headed recessed sash windows, framed by rusticated pilasters and archivolt arches with keys. The first floor has segmental-headed sash windows in plain architraves that rise from the ground floor entablature, featuring pediments on enriched consoles, with segmental pediments at the center of each front. The second floor has cornices on consoles, with similarly architraved sashes, while the third floor features eared architrave sashes with keys. The buildings also have sill bands and a dentil crowning cornice flanked by consoles.
The interiors have been significantly altered since the 1870s, but No. 5 retains its original doorcases, enriched chimney pieces, and cornices in the first-floor rooms.
