Description
TQ 2880 SE CITY OF WESTMINSTER PICCADILLY W1 80/109 (north side) 30-5-72 Nos 90 to 93 consec. GV II Corner block of shops and chambers. Dated 1883. Red brick with stucco ornament and dressings, slate roofs. Eclectic High Victorian design. 4 main storeys with gabled attic floor. Symmetrical 4 windows front. Ground floor shop fronts with mezzanines are enclosed by banded semicircular arches, flanked by granite Doric columns supporting entablature. Continuous vertical stucco wind bays from 1st to 3rd floors, the outer bays as canted to 1st and 2nd floors, flanked by pilasters on brick fields, the 3rd floor having elaborated debased Composite capitals supporting stucco enriched entablature; moulded enrichments to entablatures of 1st and 2nd floor windows and with pediments to central 2 bays on 1st floor. Stucco trimmed and decorated gables to attic, those over end bays crowned by segmental broken pediments, linked by balustrading. Tall chimney stacks. Left flank wall to forecourt of No 94 q.v. ashlar faced with cornices etc. returned from front. Half Moon Street return Similar to Piccadilly front but with double entrance under granite columned porch.
