Description
No. 24 Ganton Street is a house dating from the early to mid 18th century, with a shopfront added in the mid 19th century. The building is constructed of brick, with the front elevation currently painted and the rear elevation in plum color with red brick dressings. It features a slated butterfly roof that is concealed behind a parapet. The house has four storeys and two bays. The ground floor includes a shopfront with three vertical panels above a panelled fascia, and a doorway to the left. The upper storeys each have two recessed horned sash windows. At the rear, there is exposed brickwork with flush sashes set beneath red brick segmental arches, and red brick quoins. The building retains a rare surviving plan form that includes front, back, and closet rooms. Inside, there is extensive plain panelling and box cornices in the stairwell and upper storey rooms. The staircase features turned newels and moulded roll and stick balusters, all of which are now painted.
