Description

Nos. 121 to 123 Pall Mall is an office block originally designed with ground floor shops, built between 1880 and 1882 by Alexander Peebles. The building is constructed from Portland stone and features a slate roof, showcasing an eclectic Classical style with ornate Renaissance details. It stands four storeys high, including an attic storey, and is five windows wide, arranged in three major bays with a rhythm of 2:1:2.

The ground floor features a large central porch supported by pairs of Doric columns on pedestals, topped with a pediment. The former shop windows on either side have been altered for a bank in the mid-20th century and are flanked by rusticated pilasters. The two main upper floors have architraved windows framed by aediculed Composite order, with balustraded pedestals on the first floor. The façade is enhanced by a giant Composite order, which includes fluted engaged columns on either side of the centre and panelled pilasters at each end. The shafts and frieze of the entablature are richly decorated with grotesque ornamentation. The attic storey features squat, panelled Ionic pilasters, an entablature, and a balustraded parapet.
